The Children of Satan (not to be confused with the Children of Darkness) were a network of medieval vampire covens, populated by vampires who sincerely believed they were children of the Devil, doomed to roam the world in rags, accursed, feeding on the blood of innocent humans to do the Devil’s will. They abided by the Great Laws. Their most famous covens were in Rome and in Paris. The coven kidnapped many of the fledglings of Rhoshamandes until he finally left France to get away from them. The Children of Satan in Rome spelled catastrophe for Marius and his great Venetian household in the Renaissance, burning his palazzo to the ground and kidnapping and brainwashing his fledgling Armand. Notable members of the Children of Satan included Santino, Allessandra, Eleni, and Armand.
The Children of Satan largely fell apart for unknown reasons by the 1790's, one of the last covens being the one in Paris. After the destruction of the Parisian coven, the few remaining members became part of the Théâtre des Vampires, adapting some of the practices of their ritualistic Sabbats to the new age. Lestat encounters a Roman coven descended from the Children of Satan in the 1790's, who still hold to some of their ancient traditions, but without the zealotry and intensity of the coven in Paris.
