Deirdre Mayfair, born in 1941, is the 12th witch of the Mayfair clan. She is the biological mother of Rowan Mayfair, the main character of the novel The Witching Hour which takes place in the series Lives of the Mayfair Witches.

Biography[]
Early Life[]
She is born in about 1942. At the age of 10, she is seen by a doctor for dementia. Over the years, she is diagnosed with mania, paranoia, complete exhaustion, delusions, psychotic break, and depression. She attempts suicide. She is given shock treatments and treated for insulin shock. At one point, she runs away from home. She is also forcibly committed more than once.[1]
Birth of Her Daughter[]
At 18 years old, she gives birth to Rowan Mayfair. She is the designee of the Mayfair Legacy and thereby passing on the title to her daughter. Her daughter is taken from her at birth by her great aunt, Carlotta Mayfair.[1] In 1966, she receives a photograph of her daughter in San Francisco from Ellie Mayfair. In 1976, Deirdre is diagnosed with irreversible brain damage and prescribed Thorazine. In 1983, she receives another photo of her daughter in San Francisco from Ellie Mayfair. From early spring to early September of 1983, she is treated by Dr. Larry Petrie, a psychiatrist from a sanitorium. He administers her injections of Thorazine.[1]
