Nebamun, who later adopted the name Gregory Duff Collingsworth , was made by Akasha circa 4000 BCE. He is one of the oldest vampires at roughly 6000 years old, and is the fourth vampire made by Akasha.
Description[]
Gregory is tall, with darkly tanned skin, very short black hair and black eyes. He shaves his beard each evening upon rising and trims his hair short. He sleeps out in the sunlight to keep his skin dark, so he can continue to pass easily as a mortal still. His build is described as “Compact and well proportioned.”
Biography[]
Early life[]
Gregory, who called Nebamun at the time, was brought from Nineveh into Egypt and was chosen to be a lover of Akasha at nineteen years old. He did not expect to live very long, as Akasha usually had her lovers killed. Nebamun witnessed the assassination of Akasha and Enkil, and Akasha's transformation from his hiding place, horrified by the sight. He then went back into the queen's guard defending the palace, telling no one what he saw.
Life as a vampire[]
Nebamun was made into a vampire shortly after the Khayman defected from Akasha with Maharet and Mekare, and Akasha gave him the title Captain of the Queen's Blood. The Queen's Blood were vampires made exclusively by the Queen to wage war against the First Brood - vampires made by Makare, Maharet, and Khayman. He was the one to separate Maharet and Mekare, by putting them in stone coffins and sending them far away from each other. Nebamun was Captain of the Queen's Blood for over a thousand years. Eventually he became despondent and bored with the endless violence in the unchanging ancient world.
During this tenure, he trained Rhoshamandes, and met Sevraine, a slave brought over to Egypt. He turned Sevraine without the consent of Akasha, as she did not permit the creation of other female vampires. He was locked in a shrine as punishment, but was released fifty years later by Rhoshamandes. After meeting one last time with his brother in the Queen's Blood, Gundesanth, Nebamun went underground.
After reawakening in the third century, Nebamun adopted the name Gregory Duff Collingsworth and slowly began to build up a vampire family, bringing Chrysanthe from Egypt, who taught him what he had missed in history and philosophy during his time asleep and became what he referred to as his Blood Spouse. The two lived in Carthage for many years and were joined by Flavius, a fledgling of Pandora, and were later also joined by Avicus and Zenobia. The group formed a family group of Blood Kin, and accrued vast wealth.
By the year 800, the family had moved to Switzerland, and Gregory became a scholar of the Undead, creating many theories about vampires and writing down the changes in himself over the years. During Lestat’s concert and Akasha’s attack, Gregory saved Davis from immolation by Akasha, adopting Davis into his vampire family, and eventually coming to see him as another Blood Spouse to him and Chrysanthe.
Gregory became obsessed with the in universe Vampire Chronicles, and became particularly obsessed with the idea of meeting Lestat, who he fell in love with based on his stories. Despite coming close to him several times, Gregory never approached Lestat, sensing his desire to be left alone. When ancient vampires gather at Trinity Gate, Gregory joins them and meets Lestat, and supports Lestat's appointment as Prince.
In the current age Gregory is the defacto President of the Board, CEO, and founder of Collingsworth Pharmaceuticals, a world conglomerate pharmaceutical and medical research company, specializing in antiviral drugs. The company headquarters are in Gregory's home city, Geneva, Switzerland, with research facilities around the world. Gregory is highly adept at blending in with the modern world, and is asked by Lestat to advise the Court based on this knowledge. When mysterious activities within Collingsworth Pharmaceuticals are discovered, Gregory helps Fareed uncover the existence of the Replimoids. Gregory's role as an advisor at court and confidant to Lestat leaves him as Lestat's primary support system during the presumed death of his close loved ones during Blood Communion.
