Biography[]
The dark place[]
Julien appears to Cortland after he is encased in stone by Rowan. He hands Cortland a plate and instructs him to make him something to eat. As Cortland stands at the edge of the table, Julien ridicules him, calling him weak. "Nothing of the Mayfair in you," Julien says. Although, Julien admits that Cortland achieved his minimum of usefulness by bringing Lasher into the world. When Cortland pleads with his father to further help, he slides the plate back down to Cortland and tells him to fetch him something else to eat. Julien has cleared the table, and so, Cortland grabs a large blade and cuts off his own arm, giving it to his father to eat. However, their time together is short as Rowan awakens Cortland.[2]
Julien receives a visit from Rowan, but when he doesn't give her the information she's looking for, she tries to leave. However, only half of her returns to the real world, the part of her that feels, separating her into two bodies, as her intellect remains behind with Julien. He feigns ignorance when asked about Lasher, but he does however reveal that there is a way out, but it's up to the other version of Rowan to figure it out. Rowan continues to ask him about Lasher and Scotland, specifically Donnelaith, where the Mayfairs originated. He explains it is an ancient stronghold with a castle built on land, blessed by pagan spirits. Julien was first taken by Rowan's great-grandmother, Marguerite, who taught to honor the Taltos, leading Rowan to conclude that it was Julien who ripped those pages out of Marguerite's journal because he didn't want anyone to know what she knew, except for himself and Albrecht. Julien becomes upset after realizing that Rowan was able to pull this out of him and begins insulting her, insisting that Marguerite chose him and that she would've never chosen Rowan. After learning that Julien has another son named Ian, Rowan realizes Julien won't let her go was because he doesn't care about the family in New Orleans due to the fact that he has a family in Scotland and that's where Lasher is going.[3]
Possessing Cortland[]
After Julien discovers from Ian that Cortland has been given the gift of immortality by Lasher, he tricks Cortland into the Victrola and, with help from Ian and Hamish, manages to come back to life by taking over Cortland's body. Now that Julien has taken over Cortland's body, Ian asks what are they to do about Rowan, who is refusing to leave. But Julien reminds Ian not to upset Lasher and that they can't make a move against Rowan until after the harvest. So for the time being, Julien plays his role and pretends to be Cortland at the wedding while seated by Rowan.[4]
Julien, still posing as Cortland, drugs Rowan to get her out of the way and proceeds with his plan, in which they lure Lasher into the woods and kill him for his blood all the while Emaleth gives birth to their children, who Julien also intends to use for their power. However, he has betrayed Ian and his family in favor of Rowan. He's drank Lasher's blood, which has given him unimaginable power. After Lasher is killed in combat, Julien offers to help. He claims that Rowan can bring him back if she drinks Lasher's blood. Her healing powers will not only be hers to keep, but it will be mirrored by Julien's. Two mirrors facing each other, an endless multiplier, he describes, with Rowan concluding that he wants to raise the dead. Rowan refuses his offer but stalls him long enough for Sip and Polina to escape with the kids, but Julien kills Polina in the process.[5]

Trivia[]
- The TV series depicts Julien as a cruel. According to Cortland, he was a "tyrant and abusive father." Additionally, Jojo claims Julien "stole the powers of the Mayfair women." None of these are true to the books, where Julien was a witch prodigy in his own right, and described in Lasher as the most powerful of the entire bloodline with Mary Beth and Marguerite, his daughter and mother, respectively. He never abused his children, and helped Michael Curry.
- His entire storyline is made up for the TV series, and he is completely different from his novel counterpart.
