Rose Fisher, or Rose de Lioncourt, is the ward of Lestat de Lioncourt, introduced in Prince Lestat. She is transformed into a vampire at the age of twenty, and is described as having blue eyes and long, blue-black hair.
Biography[]
Rose is the daughter of a woman named Morningstar Fisher. Her father is not known, and because of this, her grandparents refused to be involved in her life.
Rose had lived on a Greek island with her mother until an earthquake struck and the entire island went down into the sea, killing her mother and destroying her home. Rose is saved by Lestat de Lioncourt, who calls himself her uncle Lestan. He carries her away from the island and up through the stars, something she remembers for the rest of her life.
Rose goes to live in Florida with her Aunt Julie and Aunt Marge, two hired caretakers, though she still retains a close relationship with “uncle Lestan” and he continues to send her letters and gifts.
When Rose is fifteen, she takes the family car without permission or a license and drives with her friends, but they get into a fender bender and Rose ends up in juvenile court. Despite the efforts of her aunts, she is sentenced to a year at Amazing Grace Home for Girls.
The school for "troubled teens" is abusive, and Rose is both mentally tormented and physically punished for refusing to repent for crimes she did not commit, like drug use. This results in her becoming extremely sick and bedridden, so ill that she is dying. While she is ill, the building catches fire, and Rose is saved by Louis, who carries her up into the stars just as Lestat had years ago.
Rose recovers and moves to New York with her aunt Marge, where she is guarded and driven by security wherever she goes. Rose is admitted to Stanford, and falls in love with her professor, Gardener Paleston.
Rose goes to Gardener’s house where she loses her virginity to him, and decides to open up to him about the mysteries of her life. Rose tells him about “uncle Lestan” and Gardener is shocked and dismayed, claiming that she has disappointed him, because he recognizes the man Rose describes as the protagonist of The Vampire Chronicles. Gardner becomes enraged at what he sees as her indulging in childish make believe, and throws a copy of The Vampire Lestat at her, wounding her face. Rose left his house and his class, never wanting to see him again.
Rose purchases and reads The Vampire Chronicles, and struggles to reconcile and rationalize how her Uncle Lestan is connected to them. Gardener’s anger with her continues and he continues to call her and attempts to reach her, but she never responds.
Gardner kidnaps Rose and attempts to make her drink poison with him in a murder-suicide. Rose is rescued by her bodyguard and driver, Murray, but is severely injured and taken to the hospital.
Rose recovers and meets Viktor de Lioncourt, and the two bond over their mutual strange childhoods, quickly falling in love. They accompany Fareed and Seth to New York, and she is reunited with Lestat when Viktor is kidnapped. Once he returns, Lestat grants her and Viktor permission to recieve the Dark Gift, and Pandora is asked to be her maker. During her transformation, she refuses to drink blood, tormented mentally by visions of those who victimized her in life, and Lestat steps in to help her push them away, ultimately becoming her Maker.
Rose and Viktor move to the Château de Lioncourt, and are married in the chapel, briefly traveling to places Rose lived as a human on their honeymoon. They assist Lestat and Fareed with the plan to sever vampire kind from the Sacred Core in Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis. In Blood Communion, Rose hides with Lestat in the crypts as a possible target of Rhoshamandes, and dances at the final ball.
