The Elder was the caretaker of Those Who Must Be Kept until he left them in the sun in the first years of the first century. Not knowing the impact of this action on all other vampires, The Elder is left burned by the event. Marius takes Those Who Must Be Kept from The Elder at the urging of Akasha. The Elder is killed by Akasha when he tries to stop Marius.
